Plan Your Evacuation

Know your routes, your triggers, and what to grab — before you are told to leave.

Know two ways out

Map at least two evacuation routes from your neighborhood in different directions — the main road may be blocked. Practice driving them.

Leave early

If officials advise or order evacuation, go promptly. Leaving early avoids traffic, keeps roads clear for emergency crews, and gets you out before conditions worsen.

Grab-and-go

  • Your emergency kit and medications.
  • Phones, chargers, cash, and IDs/documents.
  • Pets, leashes/carriers, and pet supplies.
  • Shut off utilities only if instructed to do so.

If you cannot drive

Arrange rides with neighbors or family in advance, and know your community’s transportation assistance and shelter options.
